Carnival Cruise Insider Tips

images (6)A Carnival Cruise is one of the best vacations you can take. Whether this is your first cruise or your tenth use these tips to make you Carnival Cruise more enjoyable. These tips are gathered from my personal experience and that of other passengers.

1. Don’t pack all of your items into one bag. Split your clothing up into a couple of bags. This way if one of the bags is lost you will still have clothing until the other bag is found.

2. Pack essentials (medicine, passports, and cruise documents) in your carry-on. You will have your carry-on with you until you get your room reducing the likely hood of these items getting lost.

3. Bring Ziploc bags with you. These are ideal for small items in that you don’t want to get wet. On the flip side they are also great for placing your wet bathing suit in after a shore excursion.

4. Bring your own aspirin, small toiletries and sunscreen. Although you can get these items onboard it is usually cheaper to purchase these items before the cruise.

5. Notify your bank

download (51)The term spoilt for choice was surely created for cruising. There are just so many wonderful cruises to choose from which take in some of the finest destinations in the world. With such choice it’s no wonder there are an ever growing army of dedicated cruising enthusiasts who take a cruise holiday year after year.

With cruising becoming an increasingly attractive option more and more people are choosing to take a cruise holiday for the very first time. For those that are about to embark on their first voyage there are a few helpful tips they might need to know.

Packing for a cruise is not the same as packing for any other holiday. For a cruise you will need to take three different types of clothing, casual, informal and formal. The reason for this is that during your stay the evening meals on board will be split in to the three different dress codes. You can check with your cruise line before you leave to read their dress code and find out what you should and shouldn’t take with you.

Botswana, Pure Wilderness Still Much to Explore

download (49)The republic of Botswana is a landlocked country with roughly 1.7 Million people, neighboring South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It has the same size as France. In its North West there is the famous Okavango Delta, a unique inland delta that attracts a variety of wildlife, not only in the delta itself, but also in the adjacent parks.

Travelling in the Botswana wilderness will be guaranteed for adventure and pure African wildlife. The policy of the Botswana Government is to preserve this habitat and they do that by keeping safaris an exclusive event. Access to the parks, camping fees etcetera is expensive. And that is just the start. So you will not see the herds of tourists and safari vehicles as you may have seen in Tanzania or Kenya. And although the facilities in the parks have been upgraded the past two years, they are minimal. You will travel deep into the bush, being remote from whatever form of civilization and thus a refrigerator, stove or shower are to be brought along. Going in by yourself requires planning your adventure well

Sailing Cruise – What Is It?

download (48)What is a Sailing Cruise?

A sailing cruise is essentially a voyage from place to place aboard a wind driven boat, as opposed to an engine driven vessel. The term “cruise”, tends to be applied where guests are passengers on the voyage rather than participating in sailing the boat.

Boats offering sailing cruises tend to be quite long, more than 100ft (30m), and capable of carrying a number of passengers, each of whom pays an individual price for a bunk / berth, or a cabin.

How is it different from a Sailing Holiday?

On a sailing holiday guests want to, and pay to be involved in activities to sail the boat from one location to the next. Typically, this type of holiday is a more active proposition.

How is a Sailing Cruise different from a Sailing Boat Charter?

Guests can book an individual place (berth or cabin) on a sailing cruise; a sailboat charter is a booking for the whole boat and is generally made by a group, family or business for a private voyage.

What Types of Sailing Cruise Are There?

Trips may be booked for a day,

Selecting a Cruise That Is Right for You

images (5)If you are taking a cruise for the first time, the experience can be a little overwhelming. There is a lot more involved with taking a cruise than one might think. The first thing most people start to consider when planning a cruise is their budget. This is a very important place to start.

Experienced travelers know that there is more to picking just the right cruise than budget alone. There are couple of important factors to consider when choosing just the right cruise. With so many cruise options available it is important to find a destination and ship that will fit what you are looking for in a cruise. This in itself can be an over whelming process as there are so many destinations to choose from in the Caribbean alone.

For some, the perfect cruise will be an excursion with some of the best shopping available known to man, for others shopping is the furthest thing from their mind and it may be snorkeling or scuba diving that is on the top of their must do list. Needless to say it

Tips to Successfully Choosing Your First Cruise

download (46)Choosing your first cruise can be a very daunting task as there are so many available. Cruise vacations are great value for money, but they are not only for budget conscious travelers. There are cruises to suit every budget. And the days of cruises being the vacation of choice for retirees are long gone.

1. Price. The first thing you need to decide is how much you want to spend, including getting to and from the port and possible overnighting. Remember that everything is not included in your up front cost – on board “extras” include alcoholic beverages, spa treatments, on board shopping, some dining options, and port taxes. When you see a cruise advertised for $99, that is the basic cost only. These “extras” are automatically charged to your credit card – look out for special deals offering “on board credit”.

2. Length of Cruise. How long do you want to spend on your cruise vacation, including travel time to and from the port. Cruises are available all year long worldwide in anything from 3-day breaks to multi-week adventures.

3. Type of Cruise.

Dress Atire for a Cruise

download (44)When deciding what cruise you want to book, some of the decisions you will need to make are readily apparent, such as the length of the cruise, the port from which you leave and return, and the ports of call. Other decisions as to which cruise are not as obvious, such as what to wear on a cruise.

During the past two decades, many cruise lines have sought to broaden their clientele by appealing to families, singles, and those who have never taken a cruise because they shy away from the structure and level of formality associated with cruises.

Part of the strategy for appealing to a broader range of people for some of the cruise lines is to relax the dress code for passengers on board their ships, while other cruise lines continue to have the traditional dress requirements.

Deciphering the Definitions

Most cruise lines in their brochures or itineraries will indicate the type of dress passengers are expected to wear in a particular area of the ship or event. Reviewing the guidelines of what to wear on a cruise not only gives you

When to Go After Last Minute Cruise Deals

images (4)I have been asked several times on how to decide whether to book in advance or wait for a deal in the last minute. The answer mostly depends on how flexible you are, how often the particular cruise you want takes place, and how popular it is. Here are some tips on deciding when to go after a last minute deal

Do you need your cabin to be in a specific location?

The longer you wait to book your cruise, the less control you will have on deciding where your cabin is located. Usually, most of the cabins available when booking a last minute cruise are guaranteed cabins. This means, they guarantee the type of room you request or better but you cannot choose the specific room or location, they pick it. So if you tend to get seasick and need a centrally located cabin, then book in advance when you still have a good selection on rooms to choose from. But if you don’t mind where your room is, you will have a much better chance in getting a good last minute

Preparing for Your First Cruise

images (3)No longer the sole preserve of the rich, cruise holidays are now an affordable and popular option with holidaymakers everywhere. Nonetheless, once you have booked your first cruise, your mind will inevitably turn to things like seasickness, luggage to pack and how to keep your children entertained etc. Follow the advice below and your first cruise will be an enjoyable experience.

If you can, it is best to limit your travelling time before you set off for your first cruise. Ideally, you should book a cruise which leaves from your native country and (if possible) near to where you live. You will have enough things to think about when you are embarking on your maiden cruise, without the hassle of having to catch a flight.

However, sometimes, the only way to get the type of cruise holiday you want is to meet a ship at an overseas port. Obviously, if you live in a country that the major cruise lines do not port in, then this is unavoidable. If this applies to you and you are a first time cruiser, then a

The Unexpected on Our First Cruise

download (40)Much of what I write here may be “old hat” to the experienced cruiser. But to those new to cruising, they can be unexpected even though your travel agent and the brochures you read may have mentioned the items I’m writing about. Experiencing them for the first time is often surprising.

The first surprise is the Personal Identity Card that is issued to you when you roll up at the cruise terminal. You attach it to a lanyard and put it around your neck. It becomes your on-board companion for the cruise. It is the key to your state room; the card you use to purchase items, such as drinks or coffee on board and, with your passport, your right to get back on the ship.

As you board the ship for the first time the crew check your card and take a photograph of you so that each time you leave or return to the ship your card and therefore your photograph are checked. The card also allows you to check your on-board account to see the extent of your purchasers. This

A Week’s Vacation in the Islands of the Aegean Sea With a Sailing Boat

download (38)Endless hours on the beach, overlooking the blue horizon, the night sky and stars. Early in the morning a cup of coffee, pyjamas as swimwear and then dive to the “big blue”. Only you and your mate, in secluded bays, and yet in the most popular islands. The sailing holidays are a way of life, which however can be followed by all.

Let’s start our sailing trip from Paros Island. The advantage of Paros lies in the fact that Paros is located exactly at the center of the Cyclades with so many islands around, thus making your cruising vacations in Greece an ideal option.

This gives you the opportunity to sail out every day, no matter where the wind blows from, making your islands hopping a dream.

There are so many choices and so many anchorages to stay even in very rough conditions, that sailing is safe and enjoyable even for relatively inexperienced crews.

Day 1: Set sail around Paros for your first destination, Naxos. Depending on the weather conditions it’s going to take 3-4 hours sailing. Naxos is one of the biggest islands of

Our First Day on Our First Cruise

download (39)The first day of our first cruise, we found, was quite a daunting experience. There were thousands of passengers and friends in the area when we arrived to board. It appeared to be organised chaos. We wondered what we had let ourselves into. But let me tell you how we got to be on our first cruise, first before explaining our “questionable” start to our first cruise.

I had always wanted to try a cruise. Our first cruise came about by default. Six months before my 70th birthday my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I said a new set of golf clubs. Her reply was “not until you improve your golf.” My golf at the time was uninspiring. Then I suggested that I would like to see the Wanaka War Birds shows in New Zealand only to find out that the show had been on the previous week. It only occurred every two years. So then I suggested the cruise. My wife had resisted the idea in the past. But now I had the opportunity to get to

Our Christmas Cruise Traveling to Puerta Vallarta and Saving Money

download (37)My wife and I booked our first cruise for Christmas after much deliberation. The cost, what do the rooms look like, are we going to be sleeping by the anchor or the engine? Thank goodness for the internet because we were able to cross-reference the rooms that were available with rooms that had a video of them that were placed on the internet. We were able to look at the rooms and figure out if we were going to have to travel with one suitcase or the usual five. Just kidding, I pack three and carry two more. The next item on the agenda is to get the passports so we can explore the island. We discovered that if you do not have a passport and something happens and you have to fly back to the United States then the situation becomes quite complex. The Consulate comes into play and probably a lot of other costly expenses that could be avoided. Two different sources highly suggested a passport so off we go to get pictures, fingerprinted and we are to be made ”legal”.

We
